KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — For the second time in a week, a Kalamazoo high school student has been shot to death.
Relatives say at about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, an argument between 17-year-old Temetrion Hegler and his 53-year-old step-grandfather turned deadly when the older man, Bruce Embry, allegedly grabbed a gun and shot the teenager.
Kalamazoo Public Safety officers responded to the home the two shared in the 1400 block of Lane Boulevard and found the young man on the floor of the home already dead from the gunshot wound.
The suspect, who had not left the home, was taken into custody without incident, questioned and then booked into the Kalamazoo County Jail to await formal charges from the prosecutor’s office.
Hegler’s death follows the shooting death of 18-year-old Deshontae Ellis at the Red Roof Inn early Saturday. A suspect is also in custody for that killing.
Kalamazoo Public Schools will to have a team of grief counselors at Loy Norrix High School, where Hegler attended classes, on Thursday.
