DECATUR (WKZO-AM) — Van Buren County Sheriff’s deputies are seeking an animal cruelty charge against a 20-year old man from Decatur who allegedly opened fire at his small dog.
The animal was wounded in the ear and ran away. A neighbor found the small female Australian mix bleeding and called 911, identifying a young married couple as the dog’s owner.
The suspect claimed to investigators that he thought he missed the dog and only shot at the animal because it had bitten his wife. However, there were no marks on the woman.
The case has been submitted to the prosecutor’s office.
The dog was signed over to animal control, where it will be given time to recover and then put up for adoption.
