KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — A compliance auditor at Western Michigan University’s Stryker School of Medicine is behind bars after police say he attempted to ask a child for sex.
Michigan State Police say 56-year-old David Weirick was arrested Tuesday after agreeing to meet with what he thought was a 12-year-old girl at the Lakeview Mall in Battle Creek. That child was actually a police officer pretending to be a young girl on an Internet chat room.
Investigators say the Battle Creek man was approached by the undercover officer after posting an online advertisement, which stated that he was looking a younger girl to play out a sexual fantasy. He later admitted to detectives that he had been posting the ads for years.
Weirick was formally charged Wednesday with solicitation and using a computer to commit a crime.
Bail is set at $50,000.
