KALAMAZOO (WKZO) — Three young males are in custody after a 12-hour crime spree in Kalamazoo that included at least 45 separate and distinct felonies according to Public Safety Lt. Stacey Geik.
He says it began early Saturday morning with the theft of three gas-powered BB Gus from a retail store, which they used to shoot out car windows and to shoot people from a moving car.
The police report claims the trio would stop occasionally and rob items from cars, and then move on shooting at a variety of targets as they traveled around town. No one was injured but the damage will cost thousands to repair.
The three were arrested after a citizen called 9-1-1 and reported a group of five teens near the Red Arrow Golf Course, saying one of them had a handgun.
Public Safety officers were dispatched and as soon as they arrived, the boys fled on foot, and were seen tossing the guns.
The five were all captured and two of the guns and stolen property were recovered. The third BB-gun was thrown into the river.
They say the instigator was a 13-year-old from Kalamazoo who had been released from the Juvenile Home on Friday for similar crimes.
The other two include a 15-year-old from Kalamazoo and a 17-year-old from Three Rivers. They thank the citizen who called 9-1-1 and reported the gun sighting, saying it probably prevented more damage.
