LANSING (WKZO-AM) — The Michigan House has voted unanimously to approve $28 million to support short-term emergency support for the residents of Flint.
Kalamazoo County’s two state representatives, Brandt Iden and Jon Hoadley, tell WOOD-TV that they may not agree on how the Republican majority handled the crisis, but they all agree that immediate relief efforts in Flint need to continue.
“It was great to work with our colleagues on the other side of the aisle,” Iden, R-Oshtemo, said.
“It puts more nurses in schools, it puts more testing of the water (in the city), it makes sure that we can pay for the National Guard that needs to be there, and it makes sure that people can have water to drink in Flint,” Hoadley, D-Kalamazoo, said.
The Senate has to concur, which could come as soon as Thursday.
Millions more are expected to be part of the budget proposed by Gov. Rick Snyder in a few weeks to address some of the longer term issues.
