LANSING (WKZO-AM) — In the wake of the Flint water crisis, Rep. John Bizon, R-Battle Creek, has proposed expanding the Freedom of Information Act to apply to both the legislature and the executive branches of state government.
“We’ve had a catastrophe in Flint, we were let down by our government,” Bizon said. “I personally feel that we need to have a great deal to transparency surrounding this situation.”
Currently, only two states in the U.S. have such exemptions and Michigan is one of them. The judiciary would continue to be exempt.
Rep. Jon Hoadley, D-Kalamazoo, has urged similar changes.
