LANSING (WKZO-AM) — The Michigan State Housing Development Authority has awarded nearly $12 million in tax credits for the development and rehabilitation of 18 affordable housing projects, including three in southwest Michigan.
Andy Martin with the authority says Heather Gardens in Kalamazoo will get $686,000, the Miller Court Senior Apartments in Paw Paw will receive $525,000 and the Vintage Court Apartments in Lawton will get $138,000.
“Each of those are actually rehabilitations of existing affordable housing transactions,” Martin said. “Many of these were built several years ago and are to the point where, like any sort of structure, they need some updating.”
He said the credits encourage quality low-income housing.
“It’ll be a pretty good benefit for residents looking for housing in key redevelopment areas,” Martin said.
The builds will create 1,250 jobs statewide — about half in construction.
