COLDWATER (WKZO-AM) — A Branch County man who got a break from a judge after he was arrested for shoplifting last year probably won’t get the same treatment again after he was caught trying to roll a 50-inch television out of a Walmart in Coldwater, allegedly injuring a Michigan State Police officer in a scrum after fleeing.
Police say 39-year-old Christopher Fowler of Takonsha bolted to a gas station across the store’s parking lot. Trooper James McRae found him hiding in the restroom.
Police say Fowler fled. In the scuffle that followed, McRae suffered a finger injury that may require surgery to fix.
With the help of two Branch County Sheriff’s deputies, Fowler was taken into custody. He also stole a cell phone, according to investigators.
Fowler will serve the rest of his sentence from last year before standing trial on new charges of retail fraud and resisting arrest causing injury.
