KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The first African-American to retire from the Kalamazoo Police Department has been given a posthumous promotion to sergeant by Kalamazoo Public Safety.
Robert “Al” Goodwin left the force in 1976 after 25 years, where he spoke to civic groups and led the department’s office of community relations during his tenure.
The promotion will become official during a Kalamazoo City Commission meeting set for February 15.
