SPRING LAKE (WKZO-AM) — Storms that brought blizzards to the plains states and northern Michigan and tornadoes to the south have only brought rain and thunder to southwest Michigan.
Tenants are blaming a lightning strike for sparking a fire at the Woodland Ridge apartment complex in Ottawa County’s Spring Lake.
Cliff Johnson, who lives at the complex, said he heard a loud boom.
“It felt like the whole building shook, like a bomb went off,” Johnson said. “Then I noticed the alarms went off.”
Lightning in February is a relatively rare event.
