MARSHALL (WKZO-AM) — A Calhoun County Sheriff’s sergeant is recovering after getting struck with shrapnel from an exploding tire at the scene of a burning vehicle on Interstate 69.
Sgt. Brent Lincoln responded to a burning vehicle call on Northbound I-69 at mile marker 37 at about 4 p.m. on Thursday.
He found a semitrailer parked by the side of the freeway with its rear tires engulfed in flames. As he walked up to the vehicle, one of the tires exploded, projecting a big chunk of burning rubber right into his torso.
He was rushed to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, where he was treated and released.
