MOTTVILLE (WKZO-AM) — A northern Indiana couple is denying negligence claims after 20 exotic animals were seized from their southwest Michigan home.
Former pet shop owners Troy Leiby and Jessica Achberger pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to charges of animal cruelty and possessing the creatures without a permit.
Wallabies, flying squirrels, a monkey and other animals were taken from their residence in Mottville Township last month.
After meeting with the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office, the couple told reporters they’re confidant the animals will be returned to them. They would not comment about anything further, however.
