BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — The suspect in a chase across Battle Creek early Sunday morning is sitting in the Calhoun County Jail after crashing twice during the pursuit.
Battle Creek officers first attempted to stop the driver at about 2:20 a.m. in the area of Lincoln Hill and Eastway drives.
The suspect sped away, first striking a pole. The driver suffered damage to his car, but not enough to stop him.
He headed southwest for several miles with officers in pursuit on slick city streets. Michigan State Police later joined in the chase.
The suspect eventually lost control and slid into a cornfield, where he was taken into custody.
The driver and several officers all required treatment for minor scrapes and bruises sustained during the chase.
The suspect is being held for fleeing and eluding and resisting for now. His name, age and the reason why he fled were not immediately disclosed.
