BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — Battle Creek has reportedly reached a settlement with current and former female officers that sued the city’s police department after a camera caught them undressing in a locker room.
The installation in the women’s dressing room occurred in 2013 after investigators responded to complaints of someone stealing from lockers. According to court documents, the camera did catch one of the officers, Laurie Gillespie, stealing from her co-workers, but it also taped the four undressing.
Gillespie, along with Jennifer Appl, Jennifer McCaughna and Shawn O’Bryant, sued in federal court.
They claimed their civil rights and their privacy were violated.
The terms of the settlement may be announced after commissioners hold a closed session on Tuesday to discuss the offer.
