LANSING (WKZO-AM) — State Rep. Brandt Iden, R-Oshtemo, says lawmakers are making progress on passage of a state budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
He said only tweaks are being made to Gov. Rick Snyder’s $54.9 billion proposal.
“We’ll hopefully have it reported out and everything buttoned up with it by the end of May or the first part of June,” Iden said. “I think it looks good.”
And he said “looks good” is the consensus among lawmakers, even Democrats and the most fiscally-conservative Republicans.
“This is a spend budget, but the good news is that, because of the good things we’ve done over the past five years, we have the money to spend,” Iden said.
Snyder said last week he wants another $195 million set aside for Flint, the payment of Detroit Public Schools’ debt with tobacco settlement funds, and a return of higher education funding back to 2011 levels.
