PARCHMENT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Parchment High School on Thursday joined the list of schools to close for the day due to an alleged threat on Thursday, December 9.
School Superintendent Jason Misner explained in a letter to families that the alleged threat came in that morning before school started.
Students were sent home for the day as they were entering the school and buses full of students for drop off were turned around to take them back home.
Authorities say that the alleged threat was reportedly overheard in the high school, but didn’t affect other buildings in the district. They went onto say that the closure gave them time to further investigate the threat to ensure both students and staff could return to the school safely.
Since the shooting at Oxford High School in Oakland County, there has been an increase in threats reported at schools across the state.
Authorities report that seven students in Genesee County and nine kids in Muskegon County so far have been charged with making threats.
