COLUMBIA TOWNSHIP (WKZO-AM) — Van Buren County Sheriff’s deputies say a Lacota man is dead after crashing his SUV into a tree east of South Haven.
Joseph Scholze, 57, died Wednesday at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo from injuries sustained during the snowy Feb. 12 wreck at Baseline Road and 64th Street.
Scholze told first responders he lost control while attempting to pass another vehicle.
Investigators have confirmed speed and poor road conditions were factors in the crash, and also say Scholze may not have been wearing his seat belt.
