KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Kalamazoo Public Safety is investigating a shooting linked to a burglary Sunday near the Western Michigan University campus.
Officers responded to the 900 block of Berkshire Drive in the Arcadia Neighborhood, just west of campus, at around 9:15 p.m. after a confrontation between the homeowner and the thieves turned violent.
They found the homeowner suffering from a non-life threatening wound. He was transported to Bronson Methodist Hospital for treatment.
Detectives say they have a lead on the identity of one of the suspects. They’re also looking for a second man possibly involved in the incident.
The two suspects were able to escape a perimeter set up to seal off the neighborhood and a search by police dogs.
WMU issued an online warning to students, urging them to avoid the area.
The shooting is unrelated to the events that occurred Saturday night.
