KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — An Uber customer said he nearly took a ride with alleged killer Jason Dalton.
It’s alleged Dalton was providing rides for clients before, during and after his alleged shooting spree, and some of the victims may have been chosen because they were close to areas where Dalton was either trying to pick-up riders or drop them off.
The Cracker Barrel restaurant along Interstate 94 in Texas Township where four were killed is located next to a hotel. It’s believed a drop-off occurred at that hotel.
Dylan Thompson and his girlfriend were scheduled to catch a ride with Dalton from a bar, but canceled because they were not ready to leave.
“We ordered the next driver at 11:16 p.m.,” Thompson said. “I mean, that’s a difference of three minutes. That three minutes pretty much saved our life.”
A spokesman for Uber said the rideshare company was horrified by the events in Kalamazoo. They’ve pledged cooperation with local law enforcement.
