KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids says Michiganders can expect significant snowfall by the time a winter storm warning expires Thursday afternoon.
Meteorologist Cort Scholten said snowfall totals by Thursday afternoon could range up to a foot in portions of the state.
“This is often times what’s called ‘heart attack snow,’” Scholten said. “If you’re out shoveling, it’s really heavy, and you have to be careful to not over-exert yourself.”
Susan Hiltz with AAA said driving will be tough.
“Drive slower, increase following distances to a five- or six-second minimum, accelerate and decelerate slowly, know your brakes, steer, accelerate and brake smoothly, and last but not least, stay home if you don’t have to be out on the road,” Hiltz said.
Hiltz said Michigan has the nation’s highest yearly average of winter driving fatalities.
