KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s deputies don’t normally patrol in the city of Kalamazoo, but it was Sgt. James Harrison who spotted suspected mass-killer Jason Dalton leaving the Up and Under Bar on Michigan Avenue downtown early Sunday that effectively ended the killing spree.
Harrison noticed several people standing around outside the bar.
Undersheriff Pauli Matyas says he was actually responding to another call that turned out to be a false alarm.
“When he got there, it turned out to be nothing,” Matyas said. “He was lucky to be on Michigan Avenue.”
Harrison trailed behind Dalton as he headed east and then into the north side, calling for backup, making the felony stop and securing Dalton’s capture.
