KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Gun sales spiked following the Feb. 20 shooting spree in Kalamazoo, and the Kalamazoo County Clerk’s Office has also seen a rise in the number of people seeking concealed weapons permits.
Local gun store owner Joe Fulton said, between threats of gun regulations and repeated mass shootings, gun sales have been booming for some time.
“It makes me feel sad, to be honest with you,” Fulton said. “We shouldn’t have to do this kind of thing. It shouldn’t be the way things are.”
Danielle, a Richland resident who opted to not give her last name, said anything can happen at any time, and she wants to be prepared.
“I just really felt that I would be safer, just in general,” she said. “I can’t bring it to work because I’m a teacher.”
Calhoun County, the community that had the most casualties, reportedly saw a 400 percent increase in gun permit requests last Monday.
