BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — City commissioners in Battle Creek will be asked to vote Tuesday night on a resolution to declare the community a welcoming one for immigrants.
It has become a controversial issue nationally, with refugees from the Middle East flowing into Europe and Congress deadlocked over immigration policy in the United States.
Ten communities, including Kalamazoo County, Detroit and Grand Rapids, have signed on to join Welcoming Michigan.
There are 62 nationwide that have openly laid out the welcome mat for immigrants and refugees.
The resolution was drafted using others that have already been approved in other communities as a model.
