KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Otsego Public Schools is asking voters next Tuesday to approve the establishment of a sinking fund to improve the district’s buildings.
“No money is borrowed, there’s no interest incurred,” district representative Karen Ouellette said. “So, a tax is levied each year, and the funds are really targeted for building and site repairs.”
Ouellette said the money would first be put toward the installation of secure school entrances. Additional cash would would then be allocated toward making the district’s facilities more energy efficient.
“We have some schools that just don’t have the energy-efficient windows we need and we’ll add some things like insulation,” Ouellette said.
Ouelette said, if approved, property owners with $100,000 homes can expect to pay an extra $50 on their tax bills.
