LANSING (WKZO-AM) — Former state representative Cindy Gamrat is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday to face two counts of felony misconduct in office.
Attorney General Bill Schuette claims the Plainwell Republican went from lawmaker to lawbreaker while in office. Gamrat has agreed to turn herself into authorities and will be arraigned late Monday morning in Ingham County District Court.
Todd Courser, the Lapeer representative she carried out an affair with, has until Wednesday to also turn himself in or face arrest.
Courser faces three counts of misconduct, with a possible maximum of five years in prison. He faces an additional charge that he lied to a state agency, which is a 15-year felony.
Because he is a lawyer, Courser also faces sanctions from the state bar if convicted.
