HOWARD TOWNSHIP (WKZO-AM) — A Cass County man has been formally charged with a list of felonies after, according to investigators, he tried to nail his girlfriend and another woman into a bedroom then set their house on fire.
Cass County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a domestic dispute complaint on Huntly Road late Monday after a passerby reported a fire on the front porch of the home. Responding fire crews were met on the front porch by Daniel Thornton, who told them to go away.
The distraction of the controntation allowed the two women and his girlfriend’s five children to escape the home.
Responding deputies found several areas inside the home where they claim Thornton had started fires.
The 39-year-old suspect has now been charged with unlawful imprisonment, two counts of arson and three separate assault counts.
Bond was set at $150,000.
