LANSING (WKZO-AM) — Election officials say voters turned out in record numbers for Michigan’s primary.
2.4 million people, or about 34 percent of the electorate, went to the polls on Tuesday, shattering the old primary mark of 1.9 million set in 1972. That figure is sharply better than numbers from the 2012 primary, where only 17 percent of voters cast ballots.
Turnout in Kalamazoo County settled at 35 percent, but reached 50 percent at some precincts.
