LANSING (WKZO-AM) — Former state representative Todd Courser, R-Lapeer, is blasting Attorney General Bill Schuette again for the charges filed against him and Cindy Gamrat, R-Plainwell, after both were forced out of office last year amid a sex scandal.
“It’s more like a crucifixion,” Courser said. “I don’t think it’s a hanging.”
Courser tells Michael-Patrick Shiels that Schuette is pursuing the charges against himself and his one-time lover to justify his resignation and her expulsion.
“He didn’t seem at all interested in the extortion of two sitting state representatives, or the wire-tapping that was going on, or the surveilance that was going on during state time,” Courser said. “No interest in that whatsoever.”
He also claims there was an ulterior motive.
“They need to keep Flint off the front page as much as they can,” Courser said. “This will give them something for the next six or nine months.”
Both are charged with misusing their office, and Courser faces a count of perjury. Both could go to prison if convicted.
