KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The president of the Southwest Michigan Tea Party Patriots says he was pleased with Sen. Ted Cruz’s second-place finish in the Michigan’s Republican primary on Tuesday.
Local Cruz campaign representative Gene Clem said the Texas lawmaker finished well in expected areas.
“We looked at several counties and we were very strong,” Clem said. “When you look at the people in those counties, they’re very strong, traditional Republicans.”
He also said Cruz could surge with several closed primaries coming up, including one next Tuesday in delegate-rich, winner-take-all Florida.
“Those, typically, have been a little bit stronger for Cruz because Trump is getting the cross-over votes,” Clem said.
Ohio, Illinois, Missouri and North Carolina will also be up for grabs Tuesday. Donald Trump is favored in all five races.
