KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Big crowds are expected this weekend for the 51st-annual Maple Sugar Festival at the Kalamazoo Nature Center.
Just $7 will gain you access to activities, crafts, animal exhibits and tours.
Lisa Panich, a spokesperson for the center on North Westnedge Avenue, says an extra $6 will get you a pancake breakfast with real maple syrup, sausage, apple sauce, juice and coffee.
The breakfast serves as a fundraiser for the facility, Panich said.
Panich also said trees at the site are draining gallons of the sap needed to make the popular pancake topping.
“It’s the perfect weather for it this year,” Panich said. “We’ve had some years where it was too cold, some years when it got too warm, too fast — they are really filling those buckets every day.
The event starts at 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. More information can be found at the center’s website.
