GRAND HAVEN, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – There are continued school closures in West Michigan due to copycat threats in the wake of the Oxford High School shootings last week.
Grand Haven Area Public Schools and Zeeland Public Schools will be closed Tuesday as law enforcement investigate threats.
Over 100 districts statewide, including several West Michigan districts, have had to close due to copycat threats.
Grand Haven schools were also closed Monday. In an email to parents, district officials said they were closing out of an abundance of caution about reports of threats being made on Snapchat “as law enforcement continues to investigate.”
The closure includes all K-12 buildings, preschool, Open Door, events, activities and facility rentals.
Zeeland Public Schools officials also said they will be closed “out of an abundance of caution.”
The closure includes all after-school events, activities and facility rentals.
In a letter to parents Monday, district officials said they are working with law enforcement to investigate.
“We understand the very real pressure and fear that our students are feeling and know that our parents and staff are equally concerned,” Superintendent Brandi-Lyn Mendham wrote to parents. “We remain committed to our relationship with local law enforcement, who take every report or rumor seriously and investigate immediately.”
