POKAGON TOWNSHIP (WKZO-AM) — A Niles biker is in critical but stable condition after he slammed into a car that pulled out in front of him at M-51 and Peavine Street in Pokagon Township Friday afternoon.
Cass County Sheriff’s deputies say 34-year-old Troy Duis of Niles had the right of way as he was headed southbound on M-51. 16-year-old Alexis Chorba of Dowagiac apparently didn’t see the bike and pulled right in front of him.
Duis was thrown from the bike and was not wearing a helmet. He was airlifted with life-threatening injuries to a hospital in South Bend, Ind. The motorcycle hit the car with sufficient force to also cause minor injuries to Chorba.
The collision remains under investigation.
Drivers are being advised, now that warmer weather has returned, to keep an eye out for motorcyclists.
