BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — A Battle Creek man who could get life in prison for allegedly beating a dog with a baseball bat will have to wait to find out if prosecutors have enough evidence to take the case to trial.
The attorney for David Hursley asked for an adjournment of his client’s preliminary exam Monday to give him more time to study new reports and pictures that were just handed to him.
Hursley is charged with felony torturing and a misdemeanor cruelty to animal charge. He claims the dog bit a friend and he was just defending himself.
Police were forced to put the badly injured dog out of its misery.
Hursley is a repeat offender and another conviction could put him away for life.
