Quarterback Gardner Minshew II will make his first start for the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday against the host New York Jets.
Starter Jalen Hurts had been listed as questionable all week due to an ankle injury sustained when he got stepped on in the second half of last week’s loss to the New York Giants. The Eagles moved him to the inactive list Sunday.
Minshew handled most of the first-team reps in practice this week. He has played in only one game this season, completing both pass attempts for 11 yards in Philadelphia’s 44-6 win at Detroit in Week 8.
The Eagles acquired Minshew in an offseason trade with Jacksonville after the Jaguars used the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 draft on quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
Minshew, 25, was 7-13 as a starter with the Jaguars from 2019-20, completing 62.9 percent of his passes for 5,530 yards with 37 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
Hurts, 23, has completed 60.1 percent of his passes for 2,435 yards in 12 starts this season. He has 13 touchdown passes and eight interceptions. He has rushed for 695 yards with eight touchdowns.
The Eagles (5-7) are 11-0 all-time against the Jets (3-8).
In addition to Hurts, running back Jordan Howard, defensive tackle Marlon Tuipulotu and defensive backs Kary Vincent Jr., Tay Gowan and Mac McCain are inactive for the Eagles.
For the Jets, wide receiver Corey Davis returns after missing last week’s 21-14 win against the Texans with a groin injury. Davis has 32 catches for 477 yards and four touchdowns in eight games this season.
Inactive for New York are tight end Trevon Wesco, running back La’Mical Perine, offensive lineman Isaiah Williams, defensive backs Jarrod Wilson and Rachad Wildgoose, and defensive linemen Tim Ward and Sheldon Rankins.
