KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — A trial has begun to determine if an assistant principal at Portage West Middle School is guilty of fondling a female student.
The student claims Kevin Doerfler came up behind her as she sat in class and touched her chest. The prosecution claims two other students have verified the alleged victim’s story.
The defense claims the accusations are coming from vindictive students who’ve had negative interactions with Doerfler previously. They say the claims have ruined the career of a respected educator who has a clean record. They also claim a math teacher was in the room at the time and didn’t see anything take place.
The 13-year-old girl testified yesterday. She is expected to be cross-examined Thursday morning.
Doerfler is charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct, a 15-year felony.
