GRAND JUNCTION (WKZO-AM) — The Allegan County Road Commission says a sinkhole has swallowed a section of a rural road near Grand Junction.
The agency says the portion of 51st Street will likely remain closed for at least a year.
They’re trying to gather the $700,000 needed to replace the roadway with a concrete bridge and are hoping to tap a federal fund that would pay 90 percent of the cost.
Rusted-out culverts that were about 40 years old are being blamed for the collapse.
