KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The Kalamazoo Valley Museum is celebrating the 160th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s visit to the city by sprucing up a mural containing a likeness of the former president.
Three-dimensional elements have been added to the depiction of Lincoln in 1856 as he was giving an anti-slavery speech in Bronson Park, including period-accurate fence posts. Also included is a reproduction of a letter Lincoln sent to then-prosecutor Hezekiah G. Wells, where he first expressed interest in speaking in Kalamazoo.
The exhibit is located on the second floor of the facility.
The visit was Lincoln’s only to Michigan, which occurred before his presidency.
