BRADLEY (WKZO-AM) — Charges could be brought Tuesday against the sidekick in a bizarre Allegan County armed robbery over the weekend.
Deputies say it started with the robbery at a Clark gas station in Martin onSaturday afternoon. Two men with handguns got away with about $1,000 cash and cigarettes, jumped in their red Chevrolet Cavalier and sped away.
Allegan County Undersheriff Frank Baker said deputies were dispatched to Martin and a patrol car headed north on 10th Street passed the suspect’s vehicle, which was traveling in the opposite direction. He did a quick U-turn and a brief chase begun.
They have since learned that, during that chase, 18-year-old Baelyn Krueger of Woodland announced to his partner that he wasn’t going back to jail. He put his gun to his head and shot himself.
The vehicle went out of control and crashed into a barn near Bradley.
When the deputy arrived at the crash scene, Baker said he fired a shot when he thought he saw the surviving suspect reaching for a gun. The round hit the barn. The deputy has been put on routine administrative leave for a shooting review.
The 24-year-old second suspect from Grand Rapids, who was only armed with an air-soft replica, remains in custody pending charges.
