KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — GasBuddy.com says gas prices throughout Kalamazoo and southwest Michigan are increasing rapidly.
Analyst Patrick DeHaan said some stations are selling regular for $2.19 or higher.
“In some cases, that’s a 30- or 40-cent price jump,” DeHaan said. “It would not be a bad idea, if you find a station selling at a low price right now, to fill up.”
He said, in part, refinery maintenance is to blame for the jump.
“We are into the bulk of that maintenence with production of gasoline in the last week dropping notably,” DeHaan said. “Interestingly enough, it comes as oil inventories continue to rise, but gasoline inventories continue to fall.”
Michigan’s statewide average gas price was at $1.93 early Tuesday. The average in Kalamazoo early Tuesday was $1.86.
