VICKSBURG (WKZO-AM) — Prosecutors are seeking warrants in the 32-year-old cold case homicide of 16-year-old Erik Cross of Vicksburg.
It had been reported that it was a hit-and-run crash, but the only ones that know what happened have been engaged in a decades-old cover-up, maintaining a code of silence.
The teen’s body was discovered by his father on the road near his home on Y Avenue in June 1983.
Undersheriff Paul Matyas said they have identified five persons of interest. They have all been given plenty of opportunities to come forward. They even received a promise from Cross’s family that a request for leniency on their behalf would be sent to the prosecutor if they confessed.
Matyas says that hasn’t happened.
He says they sent the results of their investigation to the prosecutor’s office and it’s now up to them to determine if warrants should be issued.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help a community effort to bring the suspects to justice.
