SPRINGFIELD (WKZO-AM) — Five people and multiple puppies are safe after they escaped a fire that badly damaged a mobile home in Springfield.
Firefighters were greeted with heavy smoke and flames when they arrived at the residence in the 1200 block of Avenue A before 3 p.m. Friday.
Homeowner Trina Payne told the Battle Creek Enquirer her friend was refilling a butane lighter at the time of the blaze.
Payne said the lighter exploded at the exact moment the home’s furnace kicked on.
The fire remains under investigation.
