KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Rep. John Hoadley held a forum on the gun issue Monday night.
Kalamazoo’s mass murder in February has inspired some local residents to call for more gun regulations, while at the county clerk’s office, they are processing a record number of requests for concealed weapons permits.
Hoadley said we need more controls to make sure the wrong people aren’t getting guns.
Tom Lambert, the president of Michigan Open Carry, attended the forum and said the more people with guns the better, even in schools. He said there is no way to outlaw evil, and the police can only be in so many places.
The discussion got spirited at times during the event at the Kalamazoo Public Library and few minds were probably changed.
Local discussions may be moot anyway. Hoadley said, under state law, only the legislature in Lansing can make new rules.
