BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — A new video has been released updating the progress being made by Abigail Kopf of Battle Creek, one of two survivors of February’s mass shooting in Kalamazoo.
The new video, shot by NBC News for their Nightly News program, shows her walking on her own, smiling and generally getting better. That’s a lot of progress, considering she was declared dead on the night of the shooting just six weeks ago.
Her mother said, despite suffering a brain injury and still needing surgery to replace part of her skull, the 14-year-old continues to recover faster than anyone anticipated.
The Harper Creek Middle School student is undergoing therapy at Mary Free Bed Hospital in Grand Rapids.
A Facebook page highlighting her recovery has also been published.
Kopf was visited recently by representatives with the Kalamazoo Wings and was given a special helmet.
