KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Terrence Neuzil has tendered his resignation just months after being named Kalamazoo County’s new administrator.
Neuzil had been put on paid leave two weeks ago following allegations that have never been fully detailed. Because it was purely a personnel matter, it was not subject to the Freedom of Information Act.
He resigned before that investigation was completed.
Neuzil had received high marks for rapidly learning the lay of the land and the personalities in the community. He was already making an impact on some county proposals, but there were also concerns that perhaps he was moving too quickly.
He was chosen after the Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners went through two national searches last year — a process that generated some controversy among board members who thought a local search would be sufficient, and others who balked at the cost.
The board accepted his resignation unanimously after an extended closed meeting.
Board Chairperson John Taylor said the board will again discuss how to fill the post at their next regular meeting, which is scheduled for April 19. In the meantime, John Faul, the county’s deputy administrator, will serve as the county’s top executive officer on an interim basis.
Taylor said his personal preference is to make Faul their permanent administrator. Faul said extenuating circumstances prevented him from running for the post last year, but those issues are now out of the way.
