LANSING (WKZO-AM) — Rep. Brandt Iden, R-Oshtemo, says he’s expects quick passage of his active shooter alert bill.
It’ll be reviewed by a House committee once the legislature returns from spring break.
“It’s very similar to the Amber Alert system,” Iden said. “Local law enforcement notifies Michigan State Police, they would be able to send out the alert, which would then contact radio, television and your cellular device.”
Iden is also trying to fast-track the bill.
“I put it on an aggressive timeline,” Iden said. “I’d like to get this thing wrapped up by the end of April.”
It was prompted after three shootings left six dead in Kalamazoo on February.
Rep. Jon Hoadley, D-Kalamazoo, presented similar legislation.
