KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — Kalamazoo Public Safety has released the names of the two officers injured when their cruiser was struck by a wayward drunk driver last weekend.
Ondreya Townsend and Marcel Behnen were investigating two previous crashes on icy and hilly Howard Street early Sunday morning when a 22-year-old man who had been drinking and had no valid license slid on the icy road surface into their cruiser.
Townsend suffered a head injury and spent a couple of days being monitored at Bronson Methodist Hospital. Behnin was treated and released for a back injury. Both are recovering at home, and haven’t been back to work since the incident.
The driver was arrested but has not yet been charged.
