BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — A Calhoun County magistrate has ordered Christopher Carpenter be held without bond for allegedly beating his wife to death with his fists.
He had been held on a $250,000 bond since early December, when he was charged with aggravated domestic abuse.
Investigators claim Carpenter prevented his wife Joyce from calling 911 and insisted after the savage attack that, if he took her to the hospital, she would have to tell police that someone else beat her.
Instead, she told police that Carpenter was responsible for her injuries and he was arrested later that night. She died two days later. He is now charged with open murder and assault with intent to commit murder.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for April 27.
