STURGIS (WKZO-AM) — One person had to be treated for minor burns and smoke inhalation after a fire caused significant second-floor damage to a house in the 300 block of Clay Street in Sturgis.
The 911 call came in before 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, where it was reported to dispatchers that two people were possibly trapped inside the burning structure.
Firefighters extinguished the flames after confirming the structure had been evacuated, then stuck around for another 90 minutes to put out hot spots and monitor the scene.
It’s not clear what sparked the fire.
UPDATE – 4/13 at 1:25 p.m.: Investigators say careless smoking was to blame for the fire.
