KALAMAZOO (WKZO-AM) — The Kalamazoo County Board will get their first look Tuesday at a revised contract with Oshtemo Township for Police Protection that would add an additional deputy to do Community Policing in the Township, working with businesses to curtail retail fraud.
The revised deal would also require that the Lieutenant assigned to the detail spend more time monitoring and reporting crime trends to Township Officials.
The revised contract will also come with a higher price tag, bringing the total bill for Oshtemo close to $1.15-million.
Township officials had been studying the idea of starting their own police department, but that idea was shot down by just about everyone once they learned what they would get for an equivalent amount of money.
The Oshtemo Township Board has already reviewed the deal.
