BATTLE CREEK (WKZO-AM) — Binder Park Zoo has opened its doors for 2016, but officials with the facility in Battle Creek say big plans are already in the works for 2017.
Spokesperson Kari Parker said the zoo has nearly completed a capital campaign for a couple of new major installations and groundbreakings are forthcoming.
“People are going to see some construction this year for the new painted dog exhibit, as well as the African lions,” Parker said.
The zoo also unveiled a new tented camp in its “Wild Africa” section this year.
“We have eight tented camps that will be in ‘Africa,’” Parker said. “So, if people want to people want to come and spend the night at the zoo, it’s just a new expereince.”
Parker also said a pair of dingoes that arrived at the zoo in late 2015 are getting comfortable in the facility’s former bald eagle exhibit.
The zoo is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
